Junior Madison Hughes (Columbia, Conn.) scored a team-high 11 points, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team was unable to slow Saint Anselm College, as the Hawks pulled away early and cruised to a 77-55 Northeast 10 Conference victory Tuesday evening at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
KEY MOMENTS
- Saint Anselm jumped out quickly, hitting four triples in the opening quarter to build a 23-12 advantage after one. The Hawks continued to stretch the margin in the second, using a 16-2 run midway through the period to open up a 37-17 lead, before taking a 43-25 cushion into the locker room.
- SNHU found some rhythm out of halftime, with Ava Winterburn (New Boston, N.H.) scoring four of her nine points in the third quarter, but Saint Anselm answered each push and carried a 58-35 lead into the final frame.
- The Penmen closed the night with a 20-point fourth quarter, highlighted by back-to-back threes from sophomore Taylor Brennan (Southbury, Conn.) and senior Meghan Gordon (Attleboro, Mass.), but the deficit proved too much to overcome.

- Hughes finished with 11 points on 3-for-6 shooting and added five rebounds.
- Winterburn totaled nine points and six rebounds, while Brennan chipped in seven points and four assists.

- The Penmen and Hawks split the season series with each earning a point in the Queen City Cup. Both teams sit at 6-8 in the Northeast 10, and are in a four-way tie for fifth place with Saint Michael's College and Adelphi University. The top seven teams will qualify for the post-season Northeast 10 Championship that starts on Sunday, March 1.
