Behind an 18-save performance from junior goalkeeper Matt Roy (North Andover, Mass.), Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse earned a 10-8 victory over No. 11 Molloy University on Saturday afternoon at Ouellette Stadium. Roy turned aside 18 shots over 60 minutes as the Penmen withstood a 46-shot barrage from the Lions to secure their second win of the season.
KEY MOMENTS
- Clinging to a two-goal lead midway through the fourth quarter, SNHU got a key insurance tally from junior Joey Gallo (Derry, N.H.) at 11:57 to stretch the advantage to 10-7. Roy followed with three saves over the final 11 minutes to help the Penmen close out the win.
NOTES
- Molloy controlled possession early and outshot the Penmen 15-4 in the opening quarter, but Roy made seven first-period saves to keep SNHU in front, 3-2, after one.
- The Penmen built their lead to 5-2 in the second quarter on goals from senior Aiden Blouin (Barre, Vt.) and Gallo, including a man-up strike from Gallo at 12:08.
- SNHU extended the margin to 8-4 late in the third quarter after back-to-back goals from Gallo and sophomore Blake Wozniak (Garden Grove, Calif.), but Molloy responded with a pair of goals to cut the deficit to 8-6 entering the fourth.
- Junior Sean Dwyer (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) opened the fourth-quarter scoring at 13:38 to make it 9-6, before Molloy answered again to trim the lead to two. Gallo's fourth goal of the afternoon pushed the advantage back to three at 10-7.
- Gallo matched a career-high with four goals and two assists to pace the offense, while Dwyer contributed one goal and three assists. Blouin added two goals and an assist, and sophomore Lasse Volquardsen (Frankfurt, Germany) also found the back of the net.
- Despite being outshot and losing the faceoff battle, the Penmen capitalized on their extra-man opportunities and relied on Roy's steady presence in goal to secure the win.
- SNHU snapped a two-game losing streak to the Lions. Molloy leads the all-time series 13-6.

- SNHU will play the next five games away from home starting with a trip to New Jersey to play Caldwell University next Sunday 2/22 (12:00 p.m.).
