Senior Meghan Gordon (Attleboro, Mass.) notched a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team turned back Franklin Pierce University, 63-58, Wednesday evening at the Stan Spirou Field House.
KEY MOMENTS
- SNHU scored the first 10 points of the game as part of a 16-2 run over the opening 3:49. Sophomore Samantha Pfeil (Methuen, Mass.) led the five-scorer barrage with five points. Franklin Pierce would whittle its deficit at the end of one to 23-16.
- With FPU within five less than a minute into the second stanza, seven points from Gordon powered a 17-5 blitz that ballooned the Penmen lead to the largest of the contest at 40-23 with 2:03 on the clock. They would go into the break with a 40-25 advantage.
- The Penmen led, 54-39, after three and was in front, 56-42 a little more than two minutes into the final frame when a 12-1 rush trimmed the Franklin Pierce deficit to 57-54 with under two minutes to play. SNHU would go 6-for-8 at the line down the stretch to hold off the Ravens.
NOTES
- SNHU has now captured seven of its last 11, including two-in-a-row.
- Gordon was 5-for-17 from the field and 5-for-8 from the stripe, while grabbing the 13 rebounds, dishing a pair of assists and blocking a shot.
- The double-double for Gordon is her fourth of the season and 19th of her career.
- Junior Ava Winterburn (New Boston, N.H.) recorded 14 points (4-8 FG, 4-8 3-FG, 2-2 FT) and six rebounds.
- Franklin Pierce leads the all-time series, 61-41, but SNHU has now captured 19 of the last 22, including 12 of the last 13 at home. The teams had split the last four meetings, including a 70-57 road win for the Penmen back on Jan. 21.
