KEY MOMENTS
- SNHU led by three less than five minutes in when it extended its lead to what would be the largest of the game with an 18-6 burst that made it 27-12 with 9:12 remaining in the first half. Senior Ugo Nwachukwu (Imo State, Nigeria) and freshman Jamier Rose (Berwick, Maine) led the way with six and five points, respectively. Southern Connecticut countered with a 21-6 barrage that knotted the game at 33-all in the final seconds, but senior Ray Daniels (Las Vegas, Nev.) buried a deep 3-pointer just before the buzzer to send the Penmen to the locker room with a 36-33 edge.
- The Penmen never trailed in a closely-contested second half. They gradually built a lead up to nine and were in front, 62-53, with just over two minutes left when Southern Connecticut used a 9-2 blitz to slash its deficit to 64-62 with 24 seconds to play. Senior T.J. Morris (Jamaica, N.Y.) hit both ends of a 1-and-1 with 20 seconds left to all but end it. The Owls would nail an inconsequential 3-pointer as time expired.
