Graduate student Sydnie DeVries (Monson, Mass.) netted 10 points as the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team hung tough with first-place Southern Connecticut State University, but the Owls pulled away late for a 55-47 victory Saturday afternoon at the Stan Spirou Field House, as the Penmen celebrated their 20th annual Pink Day.
KEY MOMENTS
- SNHU trailed 8-4 just over four-and-a-half minutes in when it ripped off an 11-2 run – led by seven from sophomore Kameron St. Pierre (Swansea, Mass.) – to jump in front, 15-10, with 1:43 left in the opening quarter. SCSU hit back with a 14-2 flurry into the second quarter to jump in front, 24-17, with 6:10 left. Four different Penmen scorers combined to put up eight straight that flipped the hosts back into the lead at 25-24 with 2:14 to go and they would bring a 30-29 edge to the locker room.
- The Penmen still led by one (39-38) after three, but trailed by one with less than four minutes to play in the contest when the Owls buried back-to-back triples to go widen the lead to 51-45 with 1:58 on the clock. They would hit all four of their free throws down the stretch to seal it.

- Southern New Hampshire has dropped three straight – all by single digits.
- DeVries was 4-for-5 from the floor and 2-for-3 at the line, while grabbing five boards and making two steals.
- St. Pierre recorded nine points (3-5 FG, 1-1 3-FG, 2-2 FT).
- Junior Madison Hughes (Columbia, Conn.) posted eight points (4-7 FG) and four rebounds.
- Sophomore Taylor Brennan (Southbury, Conn.) tallied six points (2-8 FG, 2-2 FT), six rebounds and five assists.
- Southern Connecticut leads the all-time series, 45-31, as it has captured six of the last nine and four of the last five. The Owls also snap a two-game skid at SNHU, winning for the first time since Jan. 24, 2023 (62-58).
- Head coach Karen Pinkos and the team put on their 20th Penmen Pink Day to raise awareness for breast cancer, as well as funds for breast cancer-related charities.

- The Penmen are back in action Tuesday, Feb. 10 (5:30 p.m.) when they take on cross-town rival Saint Anselm College.
