Manchester, N.H. — Southern New Hampshire University has announced the hiring of
Brooks McQuade as its new Head Ice Hockey Coach, effective April 6.
McQuade brings more than 17 years of experience in hockey coaching, recruiting, and player development, along with a proven record of competitive success and student-athlete advancement at the prep, junior, and collegiate levels.
"I'm excited to welcome Brooks to the Penmen hockey program," said
Tom Wilkins, Associate Director of Athletics. "He brings a tremendous level of experience and a deep passion for the game. As a Queen City native, he understands the passion and tradition of SNHU hockey. I'm thrilled that he will be leading us into our next chapter. Throughout the hiring process, it was clear that Brooks' leadership, commitment to student-athlete development, and vision for the program align perfectly with the direction of our department. Today is indeed an exciting day for the SNHU hockey program."
McQuade joins Southern New Hampshire following a highly successful tenure as Head Coach of Boys' Varsity Hockey at Tilton School in Tilton, New Hampshire. A 2004 graduate of Tilton School, McQuade returned to his alma mater to lead the program, compiling an overall head coaching record of 144-116-9, guiding multiple championship teams, and placing more than 60 players into junior and NCAA college hockey programs.
Among the highlights of his coaching career, McQuade led Tilton to the 2018–19 New England Championship and earned Prep Coach of the Year honors from the New England Hockey Journal, along with Coach of the Year recognition from the Lakes Region League Athletic Directors. His teams also captured Lakes Region League titles and multiple Brooks–Pingree Holiday Tournament championships.
In addition to his prep school success, McQuade is the Owner, Head Coach, and General Manager of NH Granitemen Hockey, a spring and summer AAA showcase program he founded. Under his leadership, more than 40 alumni have gone on to compete at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels.
"I am extremely grateful and fortunate to have the opportunity to continue leading the SNHU hockey program," McQuade said. "I want to thank
Tom Wilkins,
Tricia Cote, and the entire hiring committee for entrusting me with the responsibility to develop our players into future leaders both on and off the ice. My family and I are excited to begin this next chapter at SNHU.
"As someone who grew up in Manchester, I appreciate the role local college programs can play in connecting with and inspiring the surrounding hockey community. Over time, I hope to continue strengthening those ties and building meaningful relationships throughout the area."
Wilkins also acknowledged those who supported the program during the 2025–26 season. "I also want to thank
Matt Osgood and
Chris Moquin for the job they did stepping in as interim head coaches during the 2025–26 season," Wilkins said. "Both coaches did a great job supporting our student-athletes and keeping the program moving forward. I really appreciate the time, energy, and care they put into the team this season. The work they did was remarkable and I'm thankful for their collective efforts along with assistant coach
Shawn Olsten and the numerous support staff behind the scenes ensuring a successful season."
Along with his extensive hockey experience, McQuade brings a strong background in business and leadership. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Hampshire in 2008 and later completed an MBA in Finance and Investment at Plymouth State University in 2013.
As Southern New Hampshire Ice Hockey Coach, McQuade will oversee all aspects of the program, including recruiting, player development, practice and game preparation, and overall program operations.
