Lineman Leads SNHU to Series Win at Pace

Senior homers twice Sunday as Penmen take three of four in Northeast 10 play

Southern New Hampshire University softball split a Northeast 10 doubleheader at Pace University on Sunday afternoon, winning the opener, 7-1, before falling 9-3 in Game 2.  Behind a strong weekend performance from senior Abby Lineman (Doylestown, Pa.), the Penmen claimed the series, three games to one, and improved to 6-2 in conference play.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • SNHU jumped out early and never looked back in a 7-1 victory in the opener.
  • Lineman paced the offense with three hits, including a two-run home run in the first inning, and finished with two RBIs.
  • Sophomore Livi Sousa (Hudson, Mass.) added three hits and an RBI, while junior Kaysie DeMoura (Taunton, Mass.) drove in two runs with a pair of doubles.
  • The Penmen broke the game open with three runs in both the first and fourth innings to build a 6-1 lead.
  • Junior Julianna Colbert (Burrillville, R.I.) was strong in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just one run on six hits and striking out five.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Pace used a big third inning to take control and earn a 9-3 victory in Game 2.
  • The Setters scored five runs in the third inning and added two more in the fifth to build a commanding lead.
  • SNHU got on the board with two runs in the fifth inning before Lineman added a solo home run in the seventh for the final margin.
NOTES
  • Lineman finished the series 9-for-13 with three home runs and eight runs batted in.  Her 18 career home runs move her into a tie for 9th in program history.
  • Colbert won both of her starts against Pace and extended her win streak to six consecutive starts.  She has 78 strikeouts in 62.1 innings pitched.
  • SNHU has won nine of its last 12 games overall.
  • The Penmen lead the all-time series with Pace 26-22.

  • The Penmen will travel to Saint Anselm College for a Northeast 10 doubleheader on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
  • SNHU's home opener is scheduled for Friday (April 3) against Adelphi University at 3 p.m.
