Penmen go 3-1 on Florida trip

Junior Carlos Molero (Barcelona, Spain) came away with a three-set win at No. 3 singles to lift the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team to a 4-3 triumph over Michigan Technological University on Thursday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.

KEY MOMENT
  • With the match even at 3-all, Molero rallied for a 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles against Sabri Laphitz to give SNHU the win.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has won six of its last nine.
  • Molero also won at No. 2 doubles, teaming with freshman Aurel Creveuil (Nanterre, France) to double up Sarth Bansode and Haitam Aboufirassi, 6-3.
  • With the Huskies having won the doubles point, Creveuil leveled the match by opening singles with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Landon Coates at the No. 2 flight.
  • Junior Albert Modol (Lleida, Spain) took care of Andres Horobeanu, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 singles to put the Penmen in front, 3-2.
  • Sophomore Marcos Castaneda (Madrid, Spain) had knotted the score at 2-2 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Haitam Aboufirassi at No. 5 singles. Castaneda is now 9-2 on the season.
  • SNHU evens the all-time series, 1-1.  The Huskies defeated the Penmen, 6-3, in Orlando back on March 8, 2011.
