Behind a balanced offensive effort and a 15-save performance from junior goalkeeper Matt Roy (North Andover, Mass.), the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team remained unbeaten with a 10-4 victory over Roberts Wesleyan University on Saturday morning at USA Lacrosse. Six different Penmen found the back of the net as SNHU improved to 4-0 for the first time.
KEY MOMENTS
- Sophomore Lasse Volquardsen (Frankfurt, Germany) opened the scoring at 13:41 of the first quarter off a feed from junior Bradley Cole (Liverpool, N.Y.), igniting a three-goal opening frame for the Penmen.
- Sophomore Cole Summers (Derry, N.H.) doubled the lead at 11:06 before junior Patrick Roy (North Andover, Mass.) capped the early surge with an unassisted tally at 4:54 to give SNHU a 3-0 advantage after one.
- After the Redhawks got on the board with a man-up goal early in the second quarter, Volquardsen answered with his second of the day at 4:51. Junior Sean Dwyer (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) struck on the extra-man opportunity with 1:04 left in the half, finishing a pass from junior Joey Gallo (Derry, N.H.) to send the Penmen into the break with a 5-1 cushion.
- Volquardsen completed his hat trick at 13:05 of the third quarter, converting a feed from Patrick Roy, and senior Aiden Blouin (Barre, Vt.) extended the margin to 7-1 with 7:02 remaining in the period off an assist from Gallo.
- Dwyer netted his second goal of the contest early in the fourth quarter, and Blouin added a man-up tally with 4:00 to play before Gallo closed the scoring for SNHU at 1:57, sealing the 10-4 victory.
NOTES
- Volquardsen led the offense with three goals, while Dwyer and Blouin each finished with two goals and an assist. Gallo totaled three points on a goal and two assists, and Patrick Roy contributed a goal and an assist.
- Matt Roy played all 60 minutes in goal and recorded 15 saves to earn the win.
- SNHU outshot Roberts Wesleyan, 43-35, and went 2-for-4 on extra-man opportunities.
- The contest marked the first-ever meeting between the Penmen and the Redhawks.
