Southern New Hampshire University softball wrapped up its Florida trip Saturday with a split against West Chester University at the Space Coast Complex in Melbourne, Fla. The Penmen claimed a 6-3, nine-inning victory in the opener before falling 9-4 in the nightcap.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Penmen broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the top of the ninth inning to secure a 6-3 extra-inning win.
  • Junior Julianna Colbert (Burrillville, R.I.) was dominant in the circle, striking out 16 over nine innings while allowing three runs on seven hits.
  • SNHU struck first in the opening inning when senior Peyton Feldman (Foxboro, Mass.) delivered a sacrifice fly to score freshman Payton Bryson (Franklin, N.H.).
  • West Chester answered with two runs in the third and added another in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead, but the Penmen tied the game in the seventh. Junior Mikaya Alto (Chelmsford, Mass.) doubled to left and drove in a run to knot the score at 3-3.
  • In the ninth, Bryson and sophomore Livi Sousa (Hudson, Mass.) reached to set the table before junior Kaysie DeMoura (Taunton, Mass.) singled to left to plate the go-ahead run. Feldman followed with a sacrifice bunt to bring home another, and DeMoura later scored to provide the final margin.
  • DeMoura finished with two hits and an RBI, while Bryson scored three times in the win. SNHU totaled 12 hits in the contest.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • In the nightcap, West Chester jumped out early and held off a Penmen rally for a 9-4 victory.
  • SNHU took a 1-0 lead in the first when Feldman reached on an error that allowed DeMoura to score.
  • The Golden Rams responded with four runs in the second and added another in the third to build a 5-1 advantage. After West Chester extended the lead to 6-1 in the sixth, the Penmen rallied in the bottom half of the inning.
  • Alto delivered a two-run double that eventually resulted in three runs scoring in the frame, trimming the deficit to 6-4.
  • West Chester answered with three runs in the seventh to pull away.
  • Senior Charlotte Donovan (Biddeford, Maine) started in the circle, and sophomore Kayla O'Boyle (Commack, N.Y.) provided relief. Alto finished with two RBIs, while Feldman drove in a run.
NOTES

  • The Penmen are now 5-5 all-time against the Golden Rams. The teams also split a doubleheader in Melbourne last season.
  • Both programs qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season.
UP NEXT
  • The Penmen will open Northeast 10 play with a pair of doubleheaders at Southern Connecticut State on Friday and Saturday, March 20-21.
