Joey Gallo (Derry, N.H.) recorded five points on three goals and two assists, including a go-ahead man-up marker, to lead the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team to a 13-8 Northeast 10 victory over Franklin Pierce University on Saturday afternoon.
KEY MOMENTS
- Franklin Pierce scored the first four goals before junior Sean Dwyer (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) scored from Gallo to make it 4-1.
- Sophomore Blake Wozniak (Garden Grove, Calif.) scored the first of four consecutive goals, followed by senior Aiden Blouin (Barre, Vt.) and twice by sophomore Lasse Volquardsen (Frankfurt, Germany) to tie the game at 5-5.
- After the Ravens regained a 6-5 edge before halftime, Southern New Hampshire answered with a pair of extra-man goals from Dwyer early in the third to even the score at 7-7.
- Gallo then delivered the turning point, converting a man-up opportunity off a feed from Dwyer with 9:58 remaining in the third quarter to give the Penmen their first lead at 8-7.
- Franklin Pierce briefly tied the game at 8-8, but sophomore PJ Cunningham (Bronx, N.Y.) scored with 1:46 left in the third to put SNHU back in front for good.
- Southern New Hampshire pulled away in the fourth quarter, as Cunningham added another goal before Gallo struck twice more — including an unassisted tally and a goal off an assist from Wozniak — to extend the lead to 12-8 and secure the win.
