Junior goalkeeper Matt Roy (North Andover, Mass.) turned in a standout performance with 25 saves, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team fell to third-ranked Saint Anselm College, 13-6, in Northeast 10 action Wednesday night at Ouellette Stadium.
KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire opened the scoring, as senior Aiden Blouin (Barre, Vt.) finished a feed from junior Sean Dwyer (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) just over three minutes into the contest.
  • After Saint Anselm responded with a pair, sophomore Lasse Volquardsen (Frankfurt, Germany) tied the game at 2-2 midway through the first quarter.
  • The Hawks, however, seized control in the second quarter, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 5-2 lead into halftime.
  • Saint Anselm extended the advantage in the third, netting four more goals to build a 9-2 cushion heading into the final frame.
  • Despite the deficit, the Penmen continued to battle, as Volquardsen, Blouin, sophomore PJ Cunningham (Bronx, N.Y.) and Dwyer all scored in the fourth quarter to account for the final margin.
NOTES
  • Roy's 25 saves were a career high and came against 55 shots by the Hawks.  
  • Volquardsen led the offense with two goals and one assist and leads the team with 27 goals and 40 points.
  • Blouin added two goals for a career-high 16, while Cunningham and Dwyer each tallied once. 
  • The Hawks held advantages in shots (55-23), ground balls (41-15) and faceoffs (21-2).
  • Saint Anselm has now won 12 straight meetings with the Penmen and leads the all-time series, 28-12.
