Senior Abby Lineman (Doylestown, Pa.) went 3-for-7 in the doubleheader and freshman Sophie Roussel (Goffstown, N.H.) did not allow an earned run over seven innings in game two, but the Southern New Hampshire University softball team was swept by Assumption University on Saturday afternoon at the SNHU Softball Field. The Penmen lost game one, 7-3, before being edged, 1-0, in the second game.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Southern New Hampshire hit the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second on a walk with the bases loaded by sophomore Livi Sousa (Hudson, Mass.).
- SNHU doubled its lead the following inning when it pushed across an unearned run via an error on a Lineman fielder's choice.
- The score stayed 2-0 into the fifth when Assumption capitalized on a pair of errors to strike five times, including three unearned runs.
- Senior Peyton Feldman (Foxboro, Mass.) grabbed one back for the Penmen in the home half of the fifth on a solo home run down the left field line that trimmed the deficit to 5-3.
- The Greyhounds would extend their lead to 7-3, however, with a pair in the seventh.
- Lineman, sophomore Julia Parise (East Meadow, N.Y.; run) and sophomore Alyssa Abbott (Hudson, N.H.) all finished 2-for-4.
- Souza (walk, RBI) and junior Mikaya Alto (Chelmsford, Mass.; two walks) were both 1-for-2.
- Feldman was 1-for-4 with the home run, RBI and pair of runs scored.
- Junior Julianna Colbert (Burrillville, R.I.) went the distance, allowing seven runs – four earned – on eight hits, while striking out seven and walking one. She fell to 9-4 on the season.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Assumption scored the only run of the game on a two-out RBI single in the fifth, scoring the inning's leadoff batter, who reached on an error.
- The Penmen had the leadoff batter on in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but could not score.
- Feldman (walk), junior Kaysie DeMoura (Taunton, Mass.) and senior Sidney Rose (Davidson, N.C.) were all 1-for-2.
- Lineman and Sousa went 1-for-3.
- Roussell (1-1) allowed just the one unearned run on four hits over seven innings, while fanning five and walking a pair.
NOTES
- Colbert extended her shutout streak to 23 innings with four scoreless frames, before Assumption's five-run fifth.
- Roussell has not allowed an earned run in 18-and-two-thirds innings, spanning her last three outings.
- Lineman has reached safely in 14 straight games.
- Abbott lengthened her career best hit streak to nine games in the opener, before going 0-for-3 in game two.
- Assumption leads the all-time series with SNHU, 50-38, and has won seven of the last eight meetings, including five-in-a-row. The Greyhounds have also captured 10 of 11, including six straight, at SNHU. The last time the Penmen defeated Assumption in Hooksett was in a 12-inning affair April 23, 2022 (8-6).
