Lucia Dusseljee (Helmond, Netherlands) put the finishing touches on a 4-1 victory with a No. 6 singles win, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team took down Franklin Pierce University on Saturday morning at the FPU Tennis Courts.
KEY MOMENTS
- Dusseljee breezed to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Dylan Smith at No. 6 singles to clinch the match at 4-1.
- Junior Dajana Abadzic (Weinstadt, Germany) and sophomore Lois Tsui (Amsterdam, Netherlands) clinched the doubles point at the top flight with a 6-1 win against Gabriela Yamate and Ainhoa Ordonez.
NOTES
- The match was only played until one team clinched to beat the rain that was expected later in the afternoon.
- SNHU has now won seven of its last nine, including five-in-a-row.
- With one match to go, the Penmen are in third place in the NE10 standings and have clinched a bye straight to the semifinal round of the NE10 Championship. SNHU can either finish as the No. 2 or 3 seed. The semifinals and finals will be hosted by Adelphi University.
- Abadzic toppled Ines Gabarro, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.
- Tsui was a 7-5, 6-1 winner at No. 2 singles against Sara Gonzalez.
- Dusseljee and junior Nadya Lyekontseva (Kyiv, Ukraine) were up, 4-3, on Gabarro and Smith at No. 3 doubles when the point was clinched.
- Abadzic and Tsui, ranked 46th in the nation by the ITA, improve to 16-3 on the season.
- The Penmen are now 24-6 all-time against Franklin Pierce and have won seven straight. The last Ravens win came in the NE10 Championship semifinals on Oct. 22, 2021 at SNHU (4-0). SNHU has also captured three-in-a-row on the road in the series, with its last loss in Rindge coming April 14, 2021 (4-1).
