Women's Tennis Caps Regular Season With 5-2 Win Versus Saint Anselm

Penmen run win streak to six; claim No. 3 seed for NE10 Championship

Freshman Lucia Dusseljee (Helmond, Netherlands) clinched the match and helped earn the doubles point, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team wrapped the regular season with a 5-2 victory over cross-town rival Saint Anselm College on Tuesday at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
KEY MOMENTS
  • Dusseljee squeezed by Camila Heredia Osante, 7-5, 7-5, at No. 6 singles to put the Penmen up, 4-1.
  • With doubles even at 1-1, Dusseljee combined with classmate Eyglo Armannsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) to outlast Polina Makarenko and Heredia Osante, 7-6 (7-4), at No. 3 doubles.
NOTES
  • SNHU has now won eight of its last 10, including six-in-a-row.
  • The Penmen clinched the No. 3 seed and will take on No. 2 Assumption University in the semifinal round of the NE10 Championship on Monday, April 27. The semifinals and finals will be hosted by Adelphi University at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
  • Sophomore Lois Tsui (Amsterdam, Netherlands) doubled up Julie Borschig, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 2 singles.
  • Freshman Megan Leck (Wolviston, Billingham, U.K.), edged Natalia Gonzalez Ramos, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 3 singles.
  • Armannsdottir was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 5 singles over Claire Kochenbach.
  • Junior Dajana Abadzic (Weinstadt, Germany) and Tsui, ranked 46th in the nation by the ITA, see their nine-match winning streak snapped, as they dip to 16-4 on the season.
  • The Penmen lead the all-time series with Saint Anselm, 25-5, and have now won 25-in-a-row versus the Hawks, including 11 straight at home. The last time SNHU lost to the Hawks was at home April 14, 2005 (6-3).
