Women's Tennis Rallies for 4-3 Victory at Assumption

Penmen win at No. 1 and No. 5 singles to leapfrog Greyhounds

Junior Dajana Abadzic (Weinstadt, Germany) and freshman Eyglo Armannsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) pulled out crucial three-set wins to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team to a 4-3, come-from-behind victory at Assumption University on Thursday afternoon at the Assumption Tennis Courts.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire trailed 3-2 when Abadzic took down Marie Knispel, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, at No. 1 singles to tie the match.
  • Armannsdottir then secured the victory with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 win at No. 5 against Madison Ericson.
NOTES
  • SNHU has now won four of its last six, including two-in-a-row.
  • Freshman Megan Leck (Wolviston, Billingham, U.K.) was the other singles winner for the Penmen, notching a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 victory against Laurence Bosmans at No. 3.
  • Abadzic also teamed with sophomore Lois Tsui (Amsterdam, Netherlands) to clinch the doubles point with a 6-2 triumph over Darja Trinerova and Marian Aguirre at the top flight.
  • Armannsdottir and Leck pulled the Penmen even in doubles by edging Bosmans and Kispel, 6-4, at No. 2 doubles.
  • The Penmen hold a 19-7 advantage in the all-time series and snap a two-match skid versus the Greyhounds, which included a 6-1 loss at home back on Oct. 2. SNHU has won 19 of the last 22 meetings, including six of the last eight. The Penmen have also won two of three in Worcester.

  • The Penmen are back in action Saturday (April 11) at 4 p.m. when they play host to Saint Michael's College at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
