Sophomore Megan Leck (Wolviston, Billingham, U.K.) went 2-0 and clinched the match with a win at No. 4 singles, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team took down Division I-foe Merrimack College, 5-0, Wednesday in a rain-shortened match at the North Andover High School Tennis Courts. It was the first dual match of the season for the Penmen.
KEY MOMENTS
  • SNHU led, 3-0, when Leck breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles against Pia Vargas-Lopez.
  • Senior Dajana Abadzic (Weinstadt, Germany) and junior Lois Tsui (Amsterdam, Netherlands) clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 triumph over Latizia Bojara and Miranda Ericson at the top flight.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire wins its season-opening dual match for the eighth straight year.
  • Sophomore Eyglo Armannsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland), who teamed with Leck for a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles against Paris Marozzelli and Vargas-Lopez, cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles against Allison Byrnes.
  • SNHU leads the all-time series with Merrimack, 15-9, and wins for the seventh time in the last eight meetings. The Penmen have captured three of the last four in North Andover.

  • The Penmen return to action Saturday (Sept. 12) at 1 p.m. when they take on Saint Michael's College.
