Freshman Valentina Bugnatto (Wilmington, N.C.) recorded 23 kills, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team lost its final two matches at the Christian Brothers Patriot Day Classic on Saturday at Canale Arena. The Penmen fell to Quincy University, 3-1, and then suffered another four-set loss to Claflin University.
KEY MOMENTS
- With the match even at 1-all, Quincy had an 18-8 lead in the third set when it ripped off six of the next seven to make it 24-9. The Hawks would close out the set and control the fourth to win the match.
- The Claflin match was also tied, 1-1, when Southern New Hampshire – powered by a pair of Bugnatto kills – went on a 4-0 run to pull within 22-21. The Panthers, however, tallied the final three points to go up, 2-1.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire has lost three straight.
- This was SNHU's first meeting with both teams.
- Bugnatto reeled off 10 kills against Quincy and another 13 versus Claflin.
- Freshman Lyla Thomas (Fond Du Lac, Wisc.) added nine kills versus Quincy
- Junior Jordyn Carroll (Moultonborough, N.H.) registered 11 kills against Claflin.
- Junior Ariana Davila (Austin, Texas) turned in a career-high nine kills on .529 hitting versus the Panthers.
- Freshman Emma Martinez (Plano, Texas) tallied 31 assists and seven digs against QU, before posting a double-double of 39 assists and 12 digs versus CU.

- The Penmen are back at it Tuesday, Sept. 15 (7 p.m.) when they play host to Franklin Pierce University in non-conference action.
