Barbara Brito (São Brás de Alportel, Portugal) only dropped one game in her No. 3 singles win, which clinched a 6-1 victory for the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team, as it defeated Saint Anselm College on Saturday in its home opener at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
KEY MOMENTS
- SNHU was already up, 3-0, with Brito took care of Meryn Upson, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 singles to clinch the win.
- Sophomore Eyglo Armannsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) and freshman Luna den Besten (Amsterdam, Netherlands) clinched the doubles point by blanking Upson and Miriam Patterson, 6-0, at the second flight.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire improves to 3-0 for the second time in the last three years.
- Armannsdottir and den Besten did not lose a game the entire day. Armannsdottir shut out Patterson, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles, while den Besten did the same to Elizabeth Murphy at No. 5.
- The Penmen lead the all-time series with Saint Anselm, 26-5, and have now won 26-in-a-row versus the Hawks, including 12 straight at home. The last time SNHU lost to the Hawks was at home April 14, 2005 (6-3).
WHAT'S NEXT
- SNHU's match at Providence College on Sunday (Sept. 20) at 10 a.m. has been postponed with no make-up date announced. The Penmen will now return to action Tuesday (Sept. 22) at 3 p.m. when they travel to Gordon College.
- SNHU is back home Monday, Sept. 28 (3 p.m.) when it plays host to Post at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
