Isabel Hughes (Phoenix, Ariz.) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team was chosen as the NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week for the period ending Sept. 6 the league office announced Monday.
Hughes stopped 23 of 26 shots during a 1-2-0 week for SNHU. Hughes made seven saves in a 2-1 loss at RV Embry-Riddle Aeuronautical University on Monday, made seven more saves in a 3-0 shutout of Wilmington (Del.) University on Friday and then stopped nine of 10 shots in a 1-0 defeat against Thomas Jefferson University on Sunday.
Hughes is 1-3-0 with a shutout, 1.75 goals-against average (GAA) and .837 save percentage this season, as she has turned aside 36 of the 43 shots she has seen over 360:00. Hughes' 36 saves lead the nation, while her 9.00 saves per contest place her third. She is sixth in the NE10 in save percentage.
Hughes and the Penmen return to action Friday, Sept. 11 (3 p.m.) when they play host to Monroe University at Ouellette Stadium.
