Men's Basketball Rallies to Top Le Moyne 61-57

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Senior Sam Carey (Manchester, NH) finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds as Southern New Hampshire University overcame a 29-24 halftime deficit to post a 61-57 Northeast-10 men's basketball victory at Le Moyne College Sunday afternoon.  The Penmen improve to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in league play, while the Dolphins are now 1-3 and 0-2 in the NE-10.

Carey finished 8-10 from the floor and six of his 13 rebounds came on the offensive end.  Gerald Carter (Harlem, NY) canned a pair of three-pointers and finished with 15 points and six rebounds.  Cory Vejraska (Alachua, FL) added 13 points and nine rebounds while Chris Brickley (Manchester, NH) totaled eight points.

Jason Holmes led the Dolphins with 20 points.

Le Moyne led 29-24 at halftime and opened up a 47-38 lead with 9:26 to go on a Holmes basket.  The Penmen would go on a 15-5 run and a basket by Carter with 3:40 left gave SNHU a 53-52 lead.  The Dolphins got a Holmes basket and a free throw to reclaim a two-point lead, but Carter nailed a three with 2:08 left to make it 56-55.

Holmes would sink a pair at the charity stripe with 1:46 left to give the hosts the lead one again, but on SNHU's next possession a layup by Carter gave the Penmen the lead for good with 1:18 left.  The guests sealed the win by going 3-4 at the free throw line the rest of the way.

 Southern New Hampshire led 18-11 with 8:22 to go in the first half before the Dolphins scored 10 unanswered points to take a 21-18 lead with 4:25 before halftime on a pair of Dan Cromwell free throws.  The Penmen took a one point lead on a pair of free throws by Vejraska with 3:01 left but Le Moyne scored the half's final six points and took a 29-24 lead into the locker room.

Southern New Hampshire outrebounded Le Moyne 41-36 and shot 51.9% (14-27) in the second half.

SNHU returns to action Wednesday when it hosts The College of Saint Rose in a 7:30 contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
