Men's Hoop Uses Late Run to Down Mercy 76-51

Men's Hoop Downs Mercy 76-51

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Gerald Carter (Harlem, NY) poured in 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team to a 76-51 win over Mercy College Sunday. The Penmen are now 5-6 overall while Mercy drops to 3-9 on the season.

Carter, who was 10-11 at the free throw line, also handed out five assists. Sam Carey (Manchester, NH) finished with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Troy Bowen (Nashua, NH) added 16 points. Paul Flowers led Mercy with 14 points.

SNHU broke open the game with a 15-4 run late in the first half that gave the Penmen a 31-21 lead with 2:08 before halftime on a Bowen layup. The Penmen held a 33-23 lead at the break but the Mavericks would cut it to 38-35 with just over 16 minutes to play. The hosts held a 58-49 lead with just over seven minutes left before reeling off 18 straight points to make it 76-49.

SNHU shot 62.5% in the second half and 56.5% for the game while limiting the Mavericks to 36.1% shooting.

SNHU returns to action Saturday when it travels to American International College for a 3:30 contest.
