Saint Anselm Shoots Past Men's Basketball 87-78

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Chris Vetrano (Andover, MA) poured in a
career-high 42 points, 34 coming in the second half, as Saint
Anselm College erased a 14-point second half deficit to post a
87-78 win over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10
men's basketball Tuesday night. The Hawks improved to 3-3 and
3-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Penmen are now 2-4 overall and
1-4 in the league.
Vetrano finished 8-9 from
three-point land and 14-18 overall. His brother, Greg
Vetrano (Andover, MA) totaled 21 points, going 7-14
overall and 4-7 from behind the arc.

(Nashua, NH) drained three three-pointers and finished with a
career-high 21 points for the Penmen, who also got 18 points from
Chris Brickley (Manchester, NH).
L.J. Hunter (Cumberland, RI) added 12 points,
while Sam Carey (Manchester, NH) finished with a
double-double, recording 11 points and 10 rebounds.
SNHU led 43-35 at halftime and
after the Hawks cut the lead to three early in the second half,
went on a 11-0 run capped by a Carey basket at the 16:29 mark that
made it 54-40. Saint Anselm then reeled off 17 unanswered
points, going 7-8 from the floor, to take a 57-54 lead on a Chris
Vetrano basket at the 11:46 mark.
The Penmen would tie the game with
just under six minutes to play on a Bowen trifecta that made it
68-68 and again at the 4:51 mark on a conventional three-point play
by Brickley to tie the game at 71, but the Hawks would take the
lead for good on a Greg Vetrano three 17 seconds later. Saint
Anselm shot 62.1% (18-29) and 60% (9-15) from three-point land over
the final 20 minutes.
SNHU trailed just once in the first
half and opened up a 43-30 lead 46 seconds before intermission on a
Bowen three-pointer. The Hawks would score the final five
points of the period and found themselves down 43-35 at the break
following a Chris Vetrano basket at the buzzer.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Saturday when it hosts Bryant in a 3:30 contest at the SNHU
Fieldhouse.
