MANCHESTER, N.H. - Kelsey O'Keefe
(Warren, MA) finished with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists
as Bryant University outscored Southern New Hampshire University
30-13 in the second half en route to a 61-46 Northeast-10 women's
basketball victory at the SNHU Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.
The win, the third straight for the Bulldogs, improves them to 5-2
overall and 4-2 in league play, while the Penmen saw a three-game
win streak snapped and are now 3-4 and 3-3 in NE-10 action.
O'Keefe was 9-16 from the
floor. Courtney Schermerhorn (Lowell, MA)
and Jamie Campbell (Springfield, MA) finished with
eight points apiece for the Bulldogs. Julia
Houghtaling (Franconia, NH) led the Penmen with 14 points,
while Megan Shay (Candor, NY) drained three
three-pointers and totaled all 13 of her points in the first half.
Bryant jumped out to a 17-8 lead
just under eight minutes into the game but the Penmen would go on a
9-2 run and a free throw by Brooke Lefort
(Cumberland, RI) with 8:21 left in the first half made it 19-17 for
Bryant. SNHU would take a 27-26 lead on a Shay three-pointer
with 3:29 left before halftime, but five straight points by the
guests made it 31-27 with 2:48 to play. The Penmen closed out
the first half on a 5-0 run to take a 33-31 lead into the break.
After the two teams traded baskets
on their opening possessions of the second half, Bryant went on a
14-2 run and a Campbell basket with 12:44 to play gave Bryant a
47-37 lead. The Bulldogs would gradually pull away and took a
57-41 lead with just over five minutes left on a Schermerhorn
basket, and the Penmen would get no closer than 13 points the rest
of the way.
Southern New Hampshire, which was
outrebounded 40-32, shot 51.9% in the first half but just 31.3%
(5-16) over the final 20 minutes. The Penmen were also
haunted by 31 turnovers that led to 32 Bryant points.

Fieldhouse. Bryant hosts league-leading Stonehill on
Wednesday in a 5:30 tilt.
