SCORE
RINDGE, N.H. - Troy Bowen (Nashua, NH)
drained five of his seven three-point attempts and finished with 22
points as Southern New Hampshire University cruised to a 62-42
Northeast-10 men's basketball victory over Franklin Pierce
University at the FPU Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon. The
Penmen, who have now surpassed last season's win total, are now 7-7
and 4-6 in the NE-10, while the Ravens fall to 5-10 and 1-9 in the
league.
Bowen totaled 17 of his points in
the first half as the Penmen built a 31-14 halftime lead. He
also added seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two
steals. Sam Carey (Manchester, NH) recorded
a double-double, going 6-8 from the floor en route to 13 points and
11 rebounds, while Gerald Carter (Harlem, NY)
added 10 points. Chase Miller (Fairfax, VA)
handed out six assists.
Terrell Ray was the lone Raven in
double figures as he finished with 22 points.
The Penmen never trailed and jumped
out to a 10-0 lead just 3:41 into the contest following a basket by
Cory Vejraska (Alachua, FL). SNHU would
extend their lead to 21-3 at the 11:50 mark following a Carey
basket that capped off an 11-0 spurt. The Penmen took the
half's largest lead, 30-7, on a Bowen basket with 4:30 before
halftime and held a 31-14 lead at the break.
Franklin Pierce would get the lead
down to 16 just over a minute into the second half, but the Penmen
countered with a 9-2 run that made it 43-20 with 14:44 to play on a
Vejraska layup. Southern New Hampshire would maintain at
least a 20-point cushion the rest of the way.
The Penmen held FPU to just 14.3%
shooting in the first half and 25.9% for the contest while
outrebounding the Ravens 41-37. Both teams had 20 turnovers,
but the Penmen held a 30-10 advantage in points off
turnovers. SNHU also shot 17-21 (81%) at the free throw line.
SNHU is back in action Wednesday
night when it travels to Bryant University for a 7:30 Northeast-10
