HOOKSETT, N.H. - Seth McQuade (Manchester, NH) totaled a
goal and two assists as visiting Plymouth State University scored
twice in the first 3:43 of the third period to take a 3-2
ECAC-Northeast hockey victory over Southern New Hampshire
University at The Ice Den Wednesday night. The Panthers
snapped a four-game slide and improved to 5-8-2 and 2-3-1 in league
play, while the Penmen are 8-6-1 and 5-4-1 in the league.
Plymouth trailed 2-1 heading into
the third period, but would tie the score just 1:36 into the stanza
when McQuade scored a power play goal on assists from Kyle
Tobin (Kanata, ONT) and David Rose
(Haddon Township, NJ). The Panthers would notch the eventual
game-winner at the 3:43 mark when Bobby Dashner
(Hyde Park, MA) scored. His goal was assisted by Dave
Dufresne (Dracut, MA) and McQuade.
The Penmen would get a chance to
tie the game with 7:28 left when Bob Bryant
(Nashua, NH) was pulled down on a breakaway and awarded a penalty
shot. Bryant's attempt clanged off the left post. SNHU
would pull goalie Matt Courchesne (Bow, NH) with
1:04 left in favor of an extra attacker but the hosts could not
come up with the equalizer.
SNHU took a 1-0 lead 6:28 into the
game when Bryant scored off a rebound of a blocked shot.
Ed Montgomery (Colchester, VT) and Evan
Williams (Gilford, NH) assisted on the goal.
Plymouth would tie the game 1:20 before the first intermission on a
Chris Chambers power play (Crofton, MD)
tally. The Penmen would notch the lone goal of the second
period when Brandon Sheehan (Bedford, MA) scored
an unassisted, shorthanded goal that bounced off the pad of PSU
netminder Karl Helgesson (Lerum, Sweden).
Helgesson made 40 saves en route to
the win for Plymouth State as the Penmen outshot the Panthers
42-27. Courchesne made 24 stops for SNHU. The Panthers
were 2-6 with the power play while SNHU was 0-3 with the man
advantage.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Saturday when it travels to UMass-Dartmouth for a 4:30
contest.
