HOOKSETT, N.H. - Host Southern New
Hampshire University got goals from eight different scorers as it
topped Assumption College 8-5 in Northeast-10 ice hockey at The Ice
Den Thursday night. The Penmen, who were playing their home
opener, improved to 2-0 and 1-0 in Northeast-10 play, while the
Greyhounds now stand at 1-4 and 0-2 in the league.
Dave Carroll
(Arlington, MA), William Toomey (Reading, MA) and
Andrew Hildreth (Leominster, MA) each totaled a
goal and an assist for Southern New Hampshire. John
Frey (Westminster, CO) totaled three assists for the
Penmen while Mark Lodge (Alfred, ME), Bob
Bryant (Nashua, NH) and Jonathan Santos
(Lynnfield, MA) all had two assists apiece.
Adam Gaudreau led Assumption with a
goal and an assist.
The Greyhounds trailed 4-0 after
one period and 5-2 after two, but Gaudreau would score just over a
minute in to make it 5-3. Toomey would score on an assist
from Lodge at the 4:43 mark to make it 6-3, but Pat O'Kane's
short-handed tally at 6:10 and Marc Labb's power play goal at 8:46
brought Assumption within a goal at 6-5. That would remain
the score until late, when Assumption pulled goalie Jamie DiGiulio
and the Penmen added empty net goals by Thomas
Ohlson (York, ME) and Troy Maybury (South
Portland, ME).
Southern New Hampshire scored four
times in the first. Kevin Danie (Feeding
Hills, MA) got the Penmen on the board at the 3:52 mark, then
Hildreth scored at 6:24. Carroll and Kent
Honeyman (Marietta, GA) would add power play goals late in
the frame, with Honeyman's coming 35 seconds before the first
intermission.
Matt Scioli would get Assumption on
the board 1:39 into the second period on an unassisted goal, but
SNHU's Anthony Dercole (Hamden, CT) answered at
the 16:44 mark. The Greyhounds would cut the lead to 5-2 with
16 seconds left in the frame when Patrick Fitzgibbons scored on the
power play.
Shane Brooks
(Kennebunk, ME) stopped 26 shots for Southern New Hampshire as the
Greyhounds outshot the Penmen 31-28. DiGiulio made 20 stops
for Assumption. SNHU was 3-10 on the power play while the
guests were 2-8 with the man advantage.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Saturday when it hosts Johnson and Wales University in a
2:00 game at The Ice Den.
