MANCHESTER, N.H. - Bryan Horrigan's goal 1:48 into
overtime lifted Plymouth State University to a 4-3 win over
Southern New Hampshire University in the third place game of the
Manchester Police Athletic League (PAL)/Stovepipe Tournament Sunday
afternoon at The Ice Den. The Panthers improve to 2-4
overall, while the Penmen are now 2-3 on the season.
Horrigan scored on the first shot
of overtime for either team. Sean Buckley assisted on the
goal, Horrigan's first of the season.
Southern New Hampshire jumped out
to a 1-0 lead 9:50 into the first period when Mark
Smith (Ronkonkoma, NY) scored off an assist from
Troy Maybury (South Portland, ME). The
Panthers tied the game 1:35 later when Buckley scored off assists
from Chris Cantara and Kyle Tobin.
The Penmen took a 2-1 lead 12:08
into the second period when Ryan DiBartolomeo
(Leominster, MA) scored off feeds from Jon
Lizzotte (Winslow, ME) and John Frey
(Westminster, CO). Plymouth would tie the game at the 15:33
mark on Chris Chambers' seventh goal of the season, but the Penmen
would reclaim the lead just 14 seconds later when Dave
Carroll (Arlington, MA) scored, with DiBartolomeo and
Kent Honeyman (Marietta, GA) assisting on the
goal.
The Panthers scored the lone goal
of the third period when Justin Phenney scored a power play goal at
the 9:40 mark.
Kevin Crosby turned aside 27 shots
en route to the win for PSU, while SNHU netminder Todd
Rowley (Billerica, MA) stopped 29 shots as the Panthers
outshot the Penmen 33-30.
Carroll was named to the
All-Tournament Team for SNHU.
The Penmen return to action on
Saturday, December 6 when it travels to Stonehill College for a
2:00 Northeast-10 game.
