- Ryan Gervais registered three goals and an assist to
lead Nichols College to an 8-5 ice hockey victory over Southern New
Hampshire University Sunday night at Levy Rink. The Bison
improved to 11-1-0 on the season, while the Penmen are now 4-4-0 on
the year.
Andrew Ella and Anthony Monte each
scored twice for Nichols, while Eric Cremer totaled a goal and an
assist. Zeke Costello handed out three assists, while Will
Munson recorded a pair of helpers for the Bison.
Troy Maybury
(South Portland, ME) led Southern New Hampshire with two goals and
an assist on the evening, while Mark Smith
(Ronkonkoma, NY) finished with a goal and two assists.
John Frey (Westminster, CO) and Adam
Ziegler (Medford, MA) each had single goals for the
Penmen. Andrew Hildreth (Leominster, MA)
registered an assist to extend his point streak to seven games.
The Bison outscored the Penmen 7-2
over the final two periods after trailing 3-1 after the first
peiord. Seven of Nichols' eight goals came on special teams,
with the Bison recording four power play and three shorthanded
goals. SNHU led 4-2 following Ziegler's goal at the 5:11 mark
of the second period, but the Bison scored five unanswered goals
spanning the second and third periods, taking a 8-4 lead on
Gervais' third goal of the game at the 12:53 mark.
Maybury got Southern New Hampshire
a 1-0 advantage at the 4:33 mark on a power play goal, but Nichols
responded 1:22 later when Gervais scored on a Bison power
play. Smith reclaimed the lead for SNHU with his goal at the
7:10 mark, then the Penmen took a 3-1 lead 2:10 later on a power
play goal by Frey.
Mike Davis earned the win in goal
for Nichols, playing the final 50:20 in relief of starter Keith
Fink and making 16 saves. Fink allowed three goals and made
five saves. Todd Rowley (Billerica, MA) made
28 saves for Southern New Hampshire, which was outshot 36-26.
The Bison were 4-8 on the power play, while the Penmen cashed in
two of their 13 extra-man opportunities.
Southern New Hampshire is idle
until January 10, when it hosts Salve Regina University in a 7:30
contest at The Ice Den.
