BOX SCORE

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Despite a career-high 32 points from senior Sam Carey (Manchester, NH) in his final regular season home game for Southern New Hampshire University, the Penmen were edged 78-75 by Le Moyne College Tuesday evening at the SNHU Fieldhouse in Northeast-10 men's basketball.  Le Moyne moved to 14-12 overall and 12-9 in NE-10 play, while the Penmen are 12-13 and 9-11 in the league.

Carey, who scored 23 of his points in the second half, finished 12-20 from the floor and 8-9 at the free throw line.  Gerald Carter (Harlem, NY) totaled 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Penmen, who also got 10 points from Troy Bowen (Nashua, NH).

Laurence Ekperigin led five Le Moyne players in double figures with 17 points.  Damani Corbin totaled 16 points on 7-9 shooting, while Dan Cromwell added 12 points.  Jonathan Joshua and Matt Vassil registered 11 points apiece.

Le Moyne led the entire second half and went up 73-62 with 4:08 remaining on a pair of free throws by Jason Holmes.  The Penmen would chip away at the lead and back-to-back conventional three-point plays by Carey, the second with 1:25 left, cut the lead to two, 74-72.  After the two teams traded empty trips, Joshua would be fouled with 39 seconds left and made one of two to make it 75-72. The Penmen would turn it over on their next possession and Corbin made one of two at the line to make it 76-72.

SNHU would cut the lead to one, 76-75, with 17.2 seconds to go when Fotis Lioutas (Thessaloniki, Greece) hit a fallaway three from the right corner.  The Penmen got a foul on the inbounds but Joshua sank both to push the lead to three.  The Penmen turned it over on their final possession and Corbin was fouled with 0.1 seconds remaining but missed both free throws.

The two teams traded the lead four times in the first 10 minutes before Le Moyne took control with a 11-0 run capped by a Corbin layup at the 8:20 mark that made it 29-20.  The Penmen got the lead down to four, 33-29, with 3:20 before halftime on a Carter basket.  The Dolphins would own a 41-36 lead at halftime.

Southern New Hampshire got the lead down to two, 43-41, early in the second half on a Lioutas three but Le Moyne countered with a 11-3 run that made it 54-44 with 14:42 left on a Joshua three.  The guests would maintain at least a six-point advantage until the game's final moments.

Le Moyne shot a sizzling 65.1% from the floor for the contest and connected on five of its 12 three-point attempts.  Southern New Hampshire was 8-18 from three-point land and held a 30-20 rebounding advantage that led to a 26-2 advantage in second chance points.

SNHU returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Assumption College for a 3:30 contest.
