BOX SCORE
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Sean Lambert (Rehoboth, MA) made a pair
of saves en route to his second shutout of the season as Southern
New Hampshire University posted a 2-0 Northeast-10 men's soccer
victory over Saint Michael's College at Larkin Field Wednesday
night. The Penmen improved to 4-1-0 overall, while the Purple
Knights are now 2-3-0. It marked the Northeast-10 opener for
both schools.
With the win, Southern New
Hampshire, under first-year head coach Marc Hubbard, is off to its
best start since the 1998 season, when the Penmen started the
season 4-0-1 and were unbeaten in their first 11 games of the
season (10-0-1).
Southern New Hampshire scored twice
in a span of 2:42 early in the first half for all of the offense it
would need. At the 11:37 mark, Adrian
Schippers (Ashby, MA) headed a crossing pass by
Paulson Edum (Calabar, Nigeria) home inside the
near left post to give the Penmen a 1-0 lead. In the
15th minute, Kevin Woods (Alyth,
Scotland) fired a rocket from 25 yards out that found the upper
right corner of the goal after Michael Adam
(Ludlow, MA) played a ball back to him at the top of the box.
Lambert went the distance for his
second shutout of the season and the fourth in five games for
Southern New Hampshire. Jason Burnett stopped seven shots for
Saint Michael's, which was outshot in the game 22-4.
SNHU returns to action on Saturday
afternoon when it hosts The College of Saint Rose in a 1:00
Northeast-10 contest at Larkin Field.
