MANCHESTER, N.H. - Stef Young (Natick, MA) made six saves
en route to her second shutout of the season as Southern New
Hampshire University posted a 2-0 victory over the University of
New Haven in Northeast-10 women's soccer Wednesday night at Larkin
Field. The Penmen improved to 2-1-1 and 2-1 in the NE-10 with
the win, while the Chargers are now 3-3-1 and 1-1 in the league.
SNHU got on the board just past the
game's 20 minute mark. Sophia Saint Paul
(Brockton, MA) took a pass from Kristina Cardoso
(Stoughton, MA) and scored her second goal of the season.
Nicole Ebner (Rochester, NY) also assisted on the
goal. The Penmen would carry the 1-0 lead into halftime.
New Haven would have a prime chance
to tie the game just over 10 minutes into the second half when it
was awarded a penalty kick, but Holly Dawson's attempt was stopped
by Young. SNHU would add an insurance goal with 1:09 to play
when Alyssa Thayer (Hooksett, NH) scored on a
breakaway.
Young's shutout was the
10th of her career, moving just one behind Patty Turner
for fifth place on the SNHU career shutout list. New Haven
keeper Kim Taylor made four saves for the Chargers, who were
outshot 13-6.
SNHU returns to action Saturday
when it travels to nationally-ranked C.W. Post for a 1:00 contest.
