BOX SCORE
MANCHESTER, N.H. - All five starters for The College of
Saint Rose reached double figures as the Golden Knights held off a
late Southern New Hampshire University rally to post a 76-72
Northeast-10 men's basketball victory at the SNHU Fieldhouse
Saturday afternoon. The Golden Knights improved to 6-9 and
4-6 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 8-7 and 4-6 in the
league.
Josh Pelletier and Malcolm Williams
paced Saint Rose with 13 points apiece, while Even Lane registered
a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Shea
Bromirski connected on a pair of NBA-range three-pointers and
finished with 11 points, while Jermaine Clark added 10 points.
Tory Stapleton
(Rahway, NJ), SNHU's leading scorer who has missed the last two
games, returned with an 18-point effort on 7-9 shooting.
Gerald
Carter (Harlem, NY) finished with 16 points and seven
rebounds, while Troy
Bowen (Nashua, NH) totaled 11 points, nine rebounds
and a career-high seven assists for the Penmen, who also got nine
points from Marcus Matthews
(Valley Stream, NY) and eight from Josh Morgan-Green
(Upper Marlboro, MD).
Saint Rose led by at least seven
points for much of the second half and took its largest lead,
65-48, with 7:48 left when Brian Hanuschak made 1-of-2 at the free
throw line. The Penmen then went on an 11-0 run and a layup
by Bowen with 4:44 left made it a 65-59 game. SNHU kept
chipping at the lead and got it down to three, 73-70, with 1:01
left after Bowen made a pair at the line.
Bowen would come up with a block on
the next Saint Rose possession and Morgan-Green came up with the
rebound for SNHU. Morgan-Green would drive the length of the
court but would be whistled for an offensive foul driving to the
hoop. The Golden Knights would then seal the win by hitting
three of their final four free throws.
The guests never trailed and jumped
out to a 19-7 lead 8:39 into the game on a layup by Williams.
The Golden Knights took their largest lead of the first half with
5:40 left when Williams converted a conventional three-point play
to make it 33-20, and Saint Rose would take a 40-29 lead into the
locker room at halftime.
Saint Rose shot 51.8% (29-56) from
the floor for the game and connected on five of its 11 three-point
attempts, but made just 13 of its 23 (56.5%) free throw
attempts. The Penmen were 22-25 at the charity stripe, but
were just 4-20 behind the arc and 41.1% from the floor for the
game. The Penmen held a 39-30 rebounding advantage.
Southern New Hampshire is off until
next Saturday when it travels to Assumption College for a 3:30
contest.
