HOOKSETT, N.H. - Goals from five different Southern New
Hampshire University players lifted the Penmen to a 5-4 ice hockey
victory over Fitchburg State College at The Ice Den Saturday
afternoon. The Penmen snapped a three-game slide and improved
to 5-6 with the win, while the Falcons, who had been unbeaten in
their last four games, are now 6-6-3 on the season.
Jon Lizzotte (Winslow,
ME) and Andrew
Hildreth (Leominster, MA) led the Penmen with a goal
and an assist apiece, while Ryan
DiBartolomeo (Leominster, MA), Doug Boulanger
(Beauport, Quebec) and Thomas Ohlson (York,
ME) all had single goals for SNHU. Dave Carroll
(Arlington, MA) and John Frey (Westminster,
CO) each had two assists for the Penmen. Four different
players scored for Fitchburg State.
Lizzotte got Southern New Hampshire
on the board just 3:06 into the game with Carroll and Hildreth
registering assists. Andrew Hutton scored on a power play for
the Falcons at the 6:25 mark, but the Penmen would score the final
two goals of the period to take a 3-1 lead into the first
intermission. Boulanger notched his first career goal at the
12:45 mark, while Ohlson recorded his second of the season 2:04
before the break.
The two teams traded goals in the
second period. Hildreth scored his fifth of the season for
the Penmen 4:10 in, but Fitchburg State's Matt Arsenault would
answer just over a minute later. DiBartolomeo reclaimed a
three-goal lead for Southern New Hampshire on a power play at the
10:49 mark with Carroll and Frey assisting. FSC's Kris
Threlkeld closed out the second period scoring at 15:40.
The Falcons made it a 5-4 game 5:04
into the third when Aaron Tiernan scored on assists from Travis
Bertolotti and Joe Rich. Fitchburg State would pull goalie
Bobby Leiser with 48 seconds remaining but could not come up with
the equalizer.
Todd Rowley (Billerica,
MA) went the distance in goal for Southern New Hampshire and
stopped 25 shots as both teams put 29 shots on goal. Robert
Vorse started and made seven saves between the pipes for Fitchburg
State in the first period before giving way to Leiser, who made 17
stops. Both teams were 1-5 on the power play.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Wednesday night when it travels to Plymouth State University
for a 6:00 contest.
