WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Chris Cantara
totaled a goal and two assists to lead Plymouth State University to
a 4-2 ice hockey victory over Southern New Hampshire University
Wednesday night. The Panthers improved to 7-8-1 on the
season, while the Penmen are now 5-7-0 overall.
Southern New Hampshire jumped out
to a 1-0 lead 2:54 into the game when Andrew Hildreth
(Leominster, MA) scored his sixth goal of the season on an assist
from Dave
Carroll (Arlington, MA). The Panthers tied the
score at the 7:54 mark on a goal by Chris Zaremba, then PSU's Sean
Buckley made it 2-0 2:47 later when he scored on a power
play. Plymouth State took a 2-1 lead into the first
intermission.
Plymouth State scored twice in a 36
second span midway through the second period to up its lead to
4-1. Dave Dufresne scored on assists from Cantara and Kyle
Tobin at the 12:39 mark, then Cantara made made it 4-1 with 6:45
left in the second. Mark Smith (Ronkonkoma,
NY) cut the lead down to two, 4-2, when he registered a power play
goal at the 15:44 mark for SNHU. Troy Maybury (South
Portland, ME) and Bob
Bryant (Nashua, NH) recorded assists on the play.
Neither team found the back of the
net in the third period. Southern New Hampshire pulled goalie
Todd
Rowley (Billerica, MA) with 1:55 left but could not
cut into the Panther advantage.
Allen Schneider turned aside 27
shots for Plymouth State as the Panthers outshot the Penmen
29-27. Rowley made 25 saves for SNHU. Both teams were
1-2 on the power play as just two penalties were whistled on each
team.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Saturday when it hosts UMass Dartmouth in a 2:00 game at The
Ice Den.
