HOOKSETT, N.H. - Bob Bryant (Nashua, NH)
totaled two goals and an assist as Southern New Hampshire
University held off Salve Regina University to post a 5-4 ice
hockey win over Salve Regina University Tuesday night at The Ice
Den. The Penmen improved to 6-8 overall, while the Seahawks
are now 2-12-2 on the season.
Troy Maybury
(South Portland, ME) finished with a goal and two assists for the
Penmen, with both Bryant and Maybury recording a +3 on the
evening. Jake Berube (Spotsylvania, VA) and
Jonathan Santos (Lynnfield, MA) each registered
goals for SNHU, while Mark Smith (Ronkonkoma, NY)
handed out a pair of assists.
Ryan Petersen led Salve Regina with
a pair of goals while Patrick Bambery and Bryan Russell each
totaled a goal and an assist.
Southern New Hampshire took a 4-3
lead with 7:49 remaining in the game when Maybury sniped a shot
from just inside the blueline inside the left post on assists from
Bryant and Smith. Bryant would record the game-winner 3:48
later to make it 5-3.
Finding itself on a power play with
just under four minutes left, Salve Regina pulled goalie Chase
Goodrich to create a 6-on-4 situation. The move paid off as
Petersen scored with the extra attacker at the 17:39 mark to make
it 5-4. The Seahawks would pull Goodrich again with 1:43 left
but could not come up with the equalizer.
SNHU used a pair of power play
goals 1:55 apart in the first period to take a 2-0 lead into the
first intermission. Santos scored on assists from
Andrew Hildreth (Leominster, MA) and Dave
Carroll (Arlington, MA) nine seconds into the first power
play of the evening at the 7:51 mark. At 9:46, the Penmen
scored on their second power play when Berube scored on feeds from
Thomas Ohlson (York, ME) and Anthony
Dercole (Hamden, CT).
The Seahawks scored a pair of power
play goals in the first 6:24 of the second period to tie the game,
with Russell scoring 3:08 into the frame and Petersen scoring his
first goal of the night 3:16 later. Southern New Hampshire
retook the lead at the 10:55 mark on Bryant's first goal of the
game and took that lead into the second intermission.
Todd Rowley
(Billerica, MA) made 28 saves in goal for Southern New Hampshire
while Goodrich turned aside 27 shots as both teams registered 32
shots. SNHU was 2-10 on the power play while the Seahawks
were 3-7 with the man advantage.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Saturday when it travels to Becker College for a 6:45 game.
