SYRACUSE, N.Y. -
Laurence Ekperigin totaled 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead Le
Moyne College to a 70-53 Northeast-10 men's basketball victory over
Southern New Hampshire University at Ted Grant Court Saturday
afternoon. The Dolphins improved to 7-5 and 4-4 in the NE-10,
while the Penmen are now 7-5 and 3-4 in the league.
Ekperigin finished 8-10 from the
floor and also blocked three shots. Christopher Johnson was
5-10 from behind the arc off the bench and totaled 19 points for Le
Moyne, which also got 10 points apiece from Kevin Roth and Damani
Corbin.
Gerald Carter
(Harlem, NY) led Southern New Hampshire with 14 points, seven
rebounds, four assists and three steals. Tory Stapleton
(Rahway, NJ) finished with 12 points and seven boards, while
Josh
Morgan-Green (Upper Marlboro, MD) added 10 points and
three steals off the bench.
Le Moyne never trailed in the game
and used a 7-0 run to take a 20-13 lead following a Kevin Hassett
basket with 8:49 left in the first half. The Penmen scored
the next six points and a layup by Kelly Coder (Exeter,
NH) pulled SNHU within one, 20-19, with 7:09 on the clock.
The Dolphins closed the first half on a 7-0 run and a Johnson three
with 35 seconds before the break gave Le Moyne its largest lead,
37-28, at halftime.
Stapleton would score on SNHU's
first possession of the second half to pull his team within seven,
37-30, but Le Moyne opened it up, outscoring the Penmen 18-8 over
the first eight minutes of the second half to take a 55-36 lead on
an Ekperigin basket. The Dolphins maintained at least a
14-point cushion the rest of the way and took their largest lead of
the game with 5:20 to play when a Roth basket made it 63-43.
Le Moyne shot 54.2% (13-24) over
the final 20 minutes and 49.1% for the game while limiting Southern
New Hampshire to 31.1% shooting for the contest. Both teams
grabbed 42 rebounds.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Tuesday night when it hosts crosstown rival Saint Anselm in
a 7:30 contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse. Tuesday's game marks
the lone meeting between the two schools this season.
