MANCHESTER, N.H. - Fifth-ranked Southern New
Hampshire University and Saint Anselm College battled to a 1-1
double-overtime draw in Northeast-10 men's soccer Wednesday night
at Larkin Field. The Penmen, who extended their unbeaten
streak to 12 games (10-0-2), but saw their win streak snapped at
six, are now 11-1-2 and 8-0-2 in the NE-10, while the Hawks, who
are 4-1-2 over their last seven games, now stand 4-7-3 overall and
4-4-2 in the league.
SNHU staked itself to a 1-0 lead in the 17th
minute. Kevin Woods (Alyth, Scotland)
delivered a left-to-right crossing pass into the box that
Adrian Schippers (Ashby, Mass.) headed home for
his 10th goal of the season. Schippers has now
scored a goal in five straight games.
Saint Anselm would come up with the equalizer eight minutes into
the second half. On a restart, Keesen Howe delivered a long
free kick into the box that Paul Kilday collected and one-timed
past SNHU keeper Sean Lambert (Rehoboth, Mass.).
SNHU's best chance to retake the lead came with just under three
minutes left in regulation. Mark Cotton
(Londonderry, N.H.) put two shots on goal, but both were stopped by
Saint Anselm goalie Eric Moriarty. Michael
Adam (Ludlow, Mass.) collected the rebound of the second
shot, but his effort was also turned aside by Moriarty.
Lambert made one shot in the contest, while Moriarty turned
aside nine shots for the Hawks. Southern New Hampshire
generated a 23-8 shot advantage on the evening, including a 10-2
advantage in shots on goal.
SNHU plays its final Northeast-10 road game of the season
Saturday when it travels to The College of Saint Rose for a 1:00
contest.
