Assumption Slides Past Hockey

HOOKSETT, N.H. - Assumption College narrowly defeated Southern New Hampshire University 4-3 in Northeast-10 Ice Hockey action on Saturday evening at the Ice Den.  With the loss, the Penmen fall to 2-2-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference, while the win betters the Greyhounds to 2-3-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the NE-10. 

Assumption would strike first 2:17 into first period on a power-play goal by Pat O'Kane.  Taylor Larsen and Kevin Glanzman would assist on the goal, and the Greyhounds would hold the 1-0 lead into the second period.  Assumption would strike again with just over 13 minutes left to play in the second period when Dave Maiocco found teammate Kevin Meehan to make the score 2-0. 

Just under four minutes later, Bob Bryant (Nashua, N.H.) and Troy Maybury (South Portland, Maine) would find Brandon Bradley (Wichita, Kansas) for SNHU's first goal of the game. The Penmen would waste no time evening the score to 2-2 as Maybury connected a power-play goal three minutes later. Kent Honeyman (Marietta, Ga.) and Frank O'Connor (Arlington, Mass.) would assist.

Assumption would notch the last goal of the second period, as Larsen and O'Kane fed Pat Fitzgibbons for the go-ahead goal with 14:30 to play.  The Greyhounds would carry the 3-2 lead into the final period.

Bryant and Maybury would again assist on a goal, this time finding Andrew Hildreth (Leominster, Mass.) to tie the game at 3-3 with just under ten minutes to play.  With 7:02 remaining, Assumption would score what would become the game-winning goal as O'Kane notched his second goal of the game on a pass from Fitzgibbons.

Mike Mastracci (Pittsburgh, Pa.) took the loss in net for the Penmen, recording 22 saves.  Assumption net minder Nick Blanchette stopped 20 shots en route to the win.   

Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Tuesday, November 24 as they travel to Suffolk University for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference matchup.
