Men's Basketball Downs Mercy 81-64

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Josh Morgan-Green (Upper Marlboro, Md.) led Southern New Hampshire University with a career-high 22 points as the Penmen defeated the Mavericks of Mercy College 81-64 on Saturday afternoon at the SNHU Fieldhouse.  With the win, the Penmen better their record to 5-4 overall, while the Mavericks fall to 0-8 on the season. 

Morgan-Green was 8-13 from the floor while notching six out of his ten three-point attempts to lead the Southern New Hampshire in scoring.  Cory Vejraska (Alachua, Fla.) shot 7-11 from the floor and 3-4 from the foul-line to notch 19 total points.  Tory Stapleton (Rahway, N.J.) totaled 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Penmen, while Corey Boland (Union, N.J.) registered eight points and eight rebounds.  Stephen Wood (South Jamaica Queens, N.Y.) totaled seven points and a game-high six assists, and Greg DeSantis (Trumbull, Conn.) registered seven points and four assists. 

Manny Garcia led Mercy with 14 points, while Hasaan Powell and Ed Wilson finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively. 

Southern New Hampshire trailed by one with just over ten minutes to play in the first half but took the lead for good on two free-throw shots by Boland that gave the Penmen a 19-18 lead.  The Penmen would take a 39-32 advantage into the second half.

A layup by Ed Wilson with 17:30 to play in the game would bring the Mavericks within three, 41-38, but the Penmen would answer with a 10-3 run starting with a DeSantis jumper to take control of the game.  The Penmen would lead by as many as 24 in the second half. 

Southern New Hampshire shot 44.8% from the floor and 55.6% from behind the foul line, while Mercy shot 46.4% from the floor and 57.1% behind the stripe.  The Penmen held a 47-29 rebounding advantage.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Tuesday when they host Southern Connecticut for a 7:00 non-conference matchup at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
