Hockey Edged by Suffolk in Codfish Bowl

BOSTON, Mass. – Niles Moore scored twice in the third period to lift Suffolk University to a 4-3 non-conference Codfish Bowl victory over Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday afternoon.  With the win, the Rams better their record to 4-6-2, while the loss drops the Penmen to 2-8-2. 

Suffolk would strike first just a minute into the game as Andrew Monesi would connect on an assist from Jason Molle.  Southern New Hampshire would answer ten minutes later as Doug Boulanger (Beauport, Quebec) notched his second goal of the season on assists from Jay Paridis (Salem, N.H.) and Anthony Dercole (Hamden, Conn.).  Suffolk would waste no time reclaiming the 2-1 lead as Ryan Fitzpatrick would score two minutes later.  SNHU would round out the first period scoring with just over five minutes remaining in the period when Brandon Sheehan (Bedford, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season to even the score at 2-2. William Toomey (Reading, Mass.) and Paradis would assist.

The Penmen would score the lone goal of the second period with just over a minute elapsed as Troy Maybury (South Portland, Maine) found the back of the net on assists from John Frey (Westminster, Colo.) and Neil Adams (Gardner, Mass.). SNHU would carry the 3-2 lead into the third period. 

Moore would tie the game for the Rams 2:32 into the final period on assists from Nate Linard and Monesi.  Moore would find the net three minutes later to notch the game-winning goal on a Rams power play.  Tom Coulstring would assist on the latter goal. 

Shane Brooks (Kennebunk, Maine) took the loss in the net for the Penmen while recording 23 saves.  Rams goaltender Jeff Rose recorded 31 saves as SNHU outshot Suffolk 24-27. 

Southern New Hampshire returns to action tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass-Boston for the consolation game of the Codfish Bowl, facing either Johnson & Wales University or UMass-Boston.
