BOSTON, Mass. - Andrew
Hildreth (Leominster, Mass.) notched two goals and an
assist for Southern New Hampshire University but it was not enough
as the Penmen fell to the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales
University Wednesday afternoon in the consolation game of the
45th Annual Codfish Bowl. The win betters the
Wildcats to 3-8-0, while the loss drops the Penmen to 2-9-2.
Johnson & Wales would put the first point on the board four
minutes into the game on a goal Shane Viola, assisted by Kevin
Marchesi. Hildreth would then strike twice, at the 6:34 mark
and then again at the 16:30 mark to give Southern New Hampshire the
2-1 lead. Matt Farley (Halifax, Mass.) and
Doug Boulanger (Beauport, Quebec) assisted on
Hildreth's first goal, while Boulanger and Charles
Wisniewski (Strongsville, Ohio) would then notch
assists. With one second remaining in the first period,
Zac Hamilton would tie the game for the Wildcats on a goal assisted
by Stephen Pfeiffer and Craig Houle.
Johnson & Wales would notch three goals in the second
period, the first coming four minutes into the period on Viola's
second goal of the game. Joe Simeone and Domenic Recchia
would assist. The Wildcats would then notch goals at the 9:10
mark and the 9:59 mark to take a 5-2 lead. Kevin Marchesi
recorded his second goal of the season on assists by Matt Anderson
and Jimmy Van Asch followed by Jason Pietrasiak's game-winning
goal, assisted by Marchesi and Recchia. Southern New
Hampshire would round out the second period on a goal
by Farley assisted by Hildreth, to cut Johnson &
Wale's lead to two.
The Penmen would come within one six minutes into the third
period as an Adam Ziegler (Medford, Mass.) goal,
assisted by Brandon Sheehan (Bedford, Mass.) and
Mac Luciani (Scituate, Mass.) would set the score
at 5-4. With just under five minutes to go in the game, the
Wildcats would strike again to take the 6-4 lead on a goal by
Simeone, assisted by Van Asch.
Ryan Gleason (Westford, Mass.) took the loss in
net for the Penmen, recording 27 saves. Jake Menzel stopped
34 shots en route to the win for the Wildcats as they were narrowly
outshot 38-33 by the Penmen.
The Penmen are idle until January 19, when they host Franklin
Pierce University for a 7:30 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference
matchup.
