EASTON, Mass. - Host Stonehill College outscored
Southern New Hampshire 43-22 in the second half to post a 75-63
Northeast-10 men's basketball victory at Merkert Gymnasium Saturday
afternoon. The Skyhawks remained unbeaten in NE-10 play at
4-0 and are 5-1 overall, while the Penmen are 3-3 and 2-3 in the
league.
Randall Stallworth led Stonehill
with 21 points on 6-9 shooting, including 3-4 from three-point
range, while A.J. Rudowitz totaled 20 points and 14 rebounds.
Daniel Heppert also finished with a double-double for Stonehill,
adding 11 points and 10 boards.
Marcus Matthews
(Valley Stream, N.Y.) led four SNHU players in double figures with
15 points and five rebounds, while Tory Stapleton
(Rahway, N.J.) registered 13 points and five boards.
Stephen Wood (South Jamaica Queens, N.Y.) totaled
11 points and six boards, while Greg DeSantis
(Trumbull, Conn.) added 10 points while handing out four assists.
Southern New Hampshire held a 41-32
lead, but the Skyhawks outscored the Penmen 17-8 over the first
5:29 of the second half and a three-point play by Patrick Lee with
14:31 to go tie the game at 49. The two teams traded the lead
seven times until Stonehill took the lead for good on a
three-pointer by Stallworth with 8:15 to go. Stallworth and
Rudowitz each sank a pair at the line with 2:48 left to open up a
69-57 lead. Stapleton cut the lead to eight with a
three-point play with 1:51 left, but the Penmen would get no
closer.
The Penmen opened up a 16-9 lead
7:46 into the game on a three by DeSantis, but Stonehill used a
12-3 spurt to tie the game 19-19 with 8:39 left on a pair of
Rudowitz free throws. Southern New Hampshire used a 16-2 run
capped by a three by Josh Morgan-Green (Upper
Marlboro, Md.) with 1:36 left to open up a 39-28 lead. The
Penmen led 41-32 at halftime.
SNHU was 13-26 from the floor in
the first half but limited to just 25.8% shooting over the final 20
minutes. Stonehill shot 50% in the second half and 46.2% for
the game while outrebounding the Pennmen 46-29.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Tuesday night when it entertains Merrimack College in a 7:30
contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
