HOOKSETT, N.H. - Saint Anselm College got two goals in
each of the first two periods as it went on to post a 5-2
Northeast-10 hockey victory over Southern New Hampshire University
at The Ice Den Tuesday night. The Hawks improve to 8-11-1 and
4-0 in the NE-10 with the win, while the Penmen now stand at 6-11-1
and 2-2 in the league.
The Hawks got goals from five different goal scorers, while Joe
Fernald recorded a pair of assists. Troy Maybury (South
Portland, ME) scored both SNHU goals.
Tom Kerwin gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead just 3:11 into the contest
on an assist from Nick Rossi. The Penmen would tie the game
at the 17:24 mark of the first on Maybury's goal, assisted by
Mark
Smith (Ronkonkoma, NY) and Bob Bryant (Nashua, NH),
but Saint Anselm would reclaim the lead 53 seconds later on a goal
by Michael Adams, giving the guests a 2-1 lead at the first
intermission.
Saint Anselm used a pair of late second period goals to increase
its lead to 4-1 at the second intermission. At the 13:41
mark, Paul Snell skated up the left side and was in all alone on
SNHU netminder Todd
Rowley (Billerica, MA). He wristed a shot past
Rowley to make it 3-1. Ryan Butler made it 4-1 with just 27
seconds remaining before the break.
The Penmen made it a 4-2 game at the 11:08 mark of the third
period with Maybury scoring on assists from Smith and Bryant.
The Hawks would add an empty net goal with 1:22 left as Mike
Nunzianto scored for Saint Anselm.
Kevin Fairweather went the distance in goal for Saint Anselm,
making 24 saves, while Rowley stopped 21 shots as both teams put 26
shots on goal.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Thursday night when it
closes out its Northeast-10 slate with a 7:00 contest at Franklin
Pierce University.
