HOOKSETT, N.H. - Troy
Maybury (South Portland, ME) totaled two goals and two
assists to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a 7-2
non-conference ice hockey victory over Stonehill College Wednesday
night at The Ice Den. The Penmen improved to 8-12-1 overall,
while the Skyhawks, who had won three in a row, are now 8-10 on the
season.
Bob Bryant (Nashua, NH)
finished with two goals and an assist for the Penmen, while
Ryan
DiBartolomeo (Leominster, MA) added a goal and an
assist. Thomas Ohlson (York,
ME) and Mac
Luciani (Scituate, MA) each had single tallies for
SNHU. Brendan O'Brien and Pat Greene each scored for
Stonehill, while Greene also had an assist.
Southern New Hampshire broke open a
2-2 game with three goals in a span of 1:27 midway through the
second period. Luciani scored on the power play at the 8:26
mark, then 27 seconds later, Bryant scored off assists from Maybury
and Anthony
Dercole (Hamden, CT). DiBartolmeo made it 5-2 at
the 9:53 mark, then the Penmen would take a 6-2 lead into the
second intermission on Maybury's goal with 2:09 left in the frame.
The Penmen jumped out to a 1-0 lead
when Ohlson scored on a power play 3:36 into the game. It
took just 13 seconds for the Skyhawks to answer, as O'Brien scored
on assists from Frank Amato and Greene. The score would
remain 1-1 until the 6:12 mark of the second period as Greene gave
Stonehill a 2-1 lead. That lead would be short-lived as
Bryant tied the game 19 seconds later.
Maybury had the lone goal of the
third period, a delayed-penalty score at the 10:54 mark.
Shane Brooks
(Kennebunk, ME) and Todd Rowley
(Billerica, MA) platooned in goal for Southern New Hampshire, with
Brooks starting each period and Rowley coming in midway through
each frame. The duo combined for 28 saves. Derek
Chapdelaine played the first 37:51 in goal for Stonehill and
allowed six goals while stopping 16 shots. Mike Manna
relieved him and allowed one goal while making six saves.
SNHU was 4-8 on the power play while killing all nine Skyhawks
extra-man opportunities.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Saturday when it travels to Westfield State College for a
5:30 contest.
