EASTON, Mass. -
Sophomore Amber Chandronnait (Bow, NH) of the
Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team was named the
2009 Northeast-10 Conference Vern Cox Player of the Year Award, it
was announced Sunday morning. In addition, the Penmen had a
total of five NE-10 All-Conference selections.

Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) each garnered
First Team honors at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, while
the pair also earned Second Team accolades at No. 1 doubles.
Junior Alison Waring (Westborough, MA) was a
Second Team recipient at No. 4 singles, while senior Meghan
Welch (Mon Vernon, NH) garnered Third Team honors at No.
6. Welch and Courteney Blais (Paxton, MA)
were named to the Second Team at No. 3 doubles.
Chandronnait, in her first season
with the Penmen, posted a 15-0 record in dual match doubles play
this season, including a 12-0 mark during NE-10 play. Her
overall record stands at 22-1 overall as she captured the singles
title at the Wilson/ITA East Regional and finished fifth at the
National Small College Championship. All but one of her
singles wins during conference play were in straight sets and six
of the 12 were by 6-0, 6-0 scores. In doubles play, she and
Echeverry have posted a 12-1 record, including a 9-1 mark during
the conference season.
Echeverry earned All-Conference
accolades for the second time in her career as she was named to the
Second Team at No. 1 singles last season. Echeverry also
rolled up a 12-0 record during Northeast-10 play and has a 16-2
record during singles play this season. Like Chandronnait,
she dropped just one set during conference play.
Waring recorded a 8-3 record
playing in the No. 4 position and posted a 9-3 record in singles
play during the season. Welch finished with a 7-4 record
playing in the No. 6 position, while she and Blais, a sophomore,
posted a 7-2 mark playing third doubles all season.
SNHU finished in a tie for second
place in the Northeast-10 regular season standings and advanced to
the NE-10 semifinals for the second straight season. The
Penmen are ranked fifth in the latest NCAA East Region ranking and
await word on a possible at-large selection to the NCAA
Championship.
