NO. ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Junior
Dajana Abadzic (Weinstadt, Germany) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team was selected as the NE10 Player of the Week and freshman
Megan Leck (Wolviston, Billingham, U.K.) earned NE10 Rookie of the Week accolades, both for the period ending March 8, the league office announced Tuesday.
The Penmen went 2-1 last week as part of their four-match trip to Florida. They shut out St. John Fisher University on Monday and posted another 7-0 victory against Seton Hill University on Tuesday, before being blanked by Michigan Techonological University, 7-0, Thursday.
Abadzic went 5-1 for SNHU, as she finished 2-1 at the top singles flight and a perfect 3-0 at No. 1 doubles. She began the week by blanking St. John Fisher's Adriana Colafranceschi, 6-0, 6-0. She then took care of Seton Hill's Carissa Shepard, 6-0, 6-2, before finally losing, 0-6, 6-7 (5-7), to Michigan Tech's Alexandra Nikonenko. Abadzic teamed with sophomore
Lois Tsui (Amsterdam, Netherlands) for doubles victories against St. John Fisher's Colafranceschi and Riana Buttino (6-0), Seton Hill's Shepard and Kaylee Kanuka (6-0), and Michigan Tech's Bella Bigari and Emily Rose (6-2).
Leck, who also was named the NE10's top rookie back on Sept. 23, recorded a 4-2 mark during the stretch, as she was 2-1 at No. 3 singles, as well as 2-1 at the second doubles flight. Leck did not drop a game versus St. John Fisher, as she was a 6-0, 6-0 winner against Isabella Busch. She then made quick work of Seton Hill's Alexandra Wolf, 6-1, 6-2, but suffered a 0-6, 2-6 setback versus Michigan Tech's Emily Cojocaru. Leck and classmate
Eyglo Armannsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) grounded St. John Fisher's Busch and Lily Miller, 6-0, slowed Seton Hill's Wolf and Alycia Derr, 6-1, and were edged by Michigan Tech's Cojocaru and Caoimhe McDonnell, 6-4.
Abadzic is 8-8 in singles play this season, including 5-5 at the top flight and 3-4 in league action. She is 12-4 in doubles, as well as 10-3 at No. 1 and 5-2 in the NE10.
Leck is 7-8 in singles, including 6-7 at No. 3 and 3-4 in the NE10. She is 5-9 in doubles, including 5-8 at No. 2.
