MANCHESTER, N.H. -
The Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team recorded
a 0-0 double overtime tie against the University of New Haven
Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field. The Penmen are now 3-5-3
overall and 1-3-3 in Northeast-10 Conference play, while the
Chargers are 6-4-1 and 3-5-1 in the league.
Saturday's game marked the second
straight scoreless tie the Penmen have been involved in, as they
played UMass Lowell to a 0-0 stalemate Wednesday night. SNHU
has now played five straight overtime games and six on the season.
On the afternoon, the Chargers
outshot the Penmen 15 to 10, but solid goaltending by both
goaltenders, Stef Young (Natick, Mass.) for the
Penmen, and Kim Taylor of the Chargers proved to be the difference
in the match. New Haven carried play in overtime, outshooting
the Penmen 6-1, but neither side could find the back of the net.
Emily Donahue
(Bristol, R.I.) led the Penmen offense in shots with four, and
Ariel Teixeira (Warren, R.I.) recorded two shots.
Young's six saves on the afternoon
guaranteed the Penmen their second straight shutout. The
shutout was the 14th of her career, moving her into sole
possession of fourth place on the SNHU all-time list. Taylor
turned aside two shots for New Haven.
The Penmen return to action at
Merrimack College Wednesday night in a 7:00 match.
