BOX SCORE

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Visiting Southern New Hampshire University used a balanced attack to down Southern Connecticut State University 73-52 in Northeast-10 men's basketball at Moore Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.  The Penmen, who won their second straight, improved to 11-7 overall and 6-7 in the NE-10, while the Owls are now 2-16 and 1-12 in the league.

The win is career win No. 495 for veteran SNHU head coach Stan Spirou, who now owns a 495-242 career record in his 25th season.

Stephen Wood (South Jamaica Queens, N.Y.) and Josh Last (Hooksett, N.H.) paced Southern New Hampshire with 10 points apiece.  Wood also grabbed six rebounds and registered three steals, while Last knocked down a pair of three-pointers and also handed out four assists.  Josh Morgan-Green (Upper Marlboro, Md.) totaled all nine of his points in the first half, while Cory Vejraska (Alachua, Fla.), Tory Stapleton (Rahway, N.J.) and Greg DeSantis (Trumbull, Conn.) each added eight points.  Corey Boland (Union, N.J.) chipped in with seven points as 11 of SNHU's 13 players reached the scoring column.

Southern New Hampshire never trailed and opened up a 13-4 lead 3:40 into the game following a layup by Vejraska.  The hosts would cut the lead to five, 15-10, with 13:34 to play in the opening period following a pair of Carberry free throws.  The Penmen gradually pulled away and scored the final six points of the first half, with a Last three 46 seconds before the break giving Southern New Hampshire a 40-23 halftime lead.

SNHU scored the first four points of the second half and a basket by Wood with 18:25 to play gave the Penmen a 44-23 lead.  Southern Connecticut would make it a 55-39 game with just under 10 minutes to go on a Chapman basket, but the Owls would get no closer.  The Penmen took their largest lead, 66-43, with 5:47 left on a Stapleton basket.

Southern New Hampshire shot 48.4% (30-62) from the floor for the game while limiting Southern Connecticut to just 36.8% shooting on the afternoon, including an 0-10 effort behind the arc.  The Penmen made a season-low seven turnovers while turning 17 SCSU giveaways into 25 points.  The Owls held a 40-34 rebounding advantage.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Tuesday night when it hosts New Haven in a 7:30 contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
