No. 25 Adelphi Moves Past Men's Basketball 75-59

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - Richard Byrd totaled 21 points and eight rebounds to lead No. 25 Adelphi University to a 75-59 win over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 men's basketball Wednesday night at the Center for Recreation and Sports.  The Panthers extended their winning streak to nine games and are now 14-1 and 7-1 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 7-6 and 2-6 in the league.

Byrd was a perfect 10-10 at the free throw line.  Chris Ranglin and Casey Cosgrove each totaled 12 points, with Cosgrove also handing out six assists.  Rob Johnson added 11 points for Adelphi.

Tory Stapleton (Rahway, N.J.) led Southern New Hampshire, as he posted his second straight double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  Josh Morgan-Green (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and Corey Boland (Union, N.J.) each finished with 10 points, with Boland also pulling down seven rebounds.  Marcus Matthews (Valley Stream, N.Y.) added eight points.

SNHU and Adelphi traded the lead 10 times in the game's first 6:40, but the Panthers would eke out a 15-10 lead with 11:49 left in the first half on a jumper by Chris Dissparra.  Adelphi would use an 8-0 run to take a 23-12 lead with just over six minutes left before intermission, but the Penmen countered with seven straight points of their own and a free throw by Matthews would pull SNHU within four, 23-19, with 4:22 on the clock.  The Panthers would rebuild a nine-point lead at halftime and headed into the locker room up 35-26.

Adelphi extended its lead to 42-29 2:44 into the second half following a three-pointer by Cosgrove, and used an 8-0 run to extend its lead to 18, 54-36, with 12:32 left following a three-point play by Ranglin.  An 11-1 run capped by a pair of Morgan-Green free throws pulled the Penmen within eight, 55-47, with 9:28 to go, but Adelphi scored the game's next nine points to take a 64-47 lead with just under seven minutes to play.  The hosts maintained at least a 16-point advantage the rest of the way.

The hosts finished the game 26-28 at the free throw line, while Southern New Hampshire was just 16-30 at the stripe.  The Penmen outrebounded Adelphi 41-38 but were harmed by 19 turnovers.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Sunday afternoon when it hosts American International College in a 3:30 contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
